Types of Civil Rights Violations
Discrimination Claims
Discrimination can happen anywhere, including the workplace or an educational institute. The law prohibits discrimination due to race, religion, gender, and other factors. Any individual or organization found guilty of unfair treatment due to discrimination could face a civil rights lawsuit.
Violation of Constitutional Rights
Every U.S. citizen is guaranteed certain rights by the Constitution. This includes freedom of speech, freedom of thought, the right to bear arms, freedom of religion, and more. If these constitutional rights are violated, the victim has the right to civil rights litigation.
Police Misconduct
Police officers are required to protect the citizens from harm but they can be guilty of violating the civil rights of citizens. For example, if a police officer commits malicious prosecution, false arrest, use of excessive force, or the unreasonable use of deadly force, then they could be held liable for a civil rights violation.
Violation of Privacy Rights
Violation of privacy, such as unlawful surveillance or a data breach, is also a civil rights violation. Privacy protection is an essential element of individual freedom and dignity, and if this right is violated, then you can file a civil rights lawsuit against the perpetrator.
There are various other types of civil rights violations, including acts that involve sexual harassment or racial segregation.
